Vespa GS 150 (VS5)
The Vespa GS150 series reaching from VS1 to VS5 is one of the most appreciated and sought for Vespa models nowadays. Primarily because of its rounded cowl and attractive lines where the seat follows the rounder shape of the chassis in a characteristic way. It has a, for that time, quite alert 150cc engine giving 8 hp at 7000 rpm which resulted in a top speed around 100 km/h.
PROS: Elegant looks and very fun to ride with its sporty style engine. The piston porting gives a good low band power which makes it more willing to accelerate that other 150 Vespas of the same era. The scooter is carefully designed and just have a look at all details from fuel tap to outer floor runner ends, nothing is just put there by routine. It is simply a beauty and among many considered a piece of design art.
CONS: Parts are hard to find and having to pay $150 for a cylinder shroud or a carburettor air box is not uncommon. During the last years new made spares are available through Piaggio and the vespa vintage parts. Due to its willingness to rev high quite a few engines are pretty worn and needing to rebore the cylinder and getting a new piston is common. The battery operated ignition makes it easy to start when the battery is full but if you forget the ignition on, it will drain quickly and the scooter will be almost impossible to start. Power supply is a bit scarce if you (like in Sweden) have to run with dipped headlights also during daytime.
